blog #25

I really like twilight but I don't like the crazy fan base and extreme talk about it. Even though I love the books and movies I get really annoyed with how much people obsess about it and I think this ruins it for so many people.
I am definitely on team Edward. I do like Jacob but just as Bella's friend. I think for people who just watch the movies are the people that are on team Jacob, for for people who read the books I think it is more likely that they will be on team Edward.

blog #24- modern warfare 2

I think mostly modern warfare is just fun. So many people love the game and play it all the time and if you are just playing it for fun in your free time i think it is just clean fun. But when people begin to get violent and the game effects them negatively then it crosses the line. I can see why the "airport scene" would offend people and could be seen as terrorism but in my opinion it is just a game and it is better for people to do it on a video game rather than doing it in real life.

blog #23

I don't really have much to say about UFC. I don't really enjoy watching it, but I don't really watch any sports. I do think it is just as much a sport as hockey or basketball. So many people are crazy about it but there is also many people who think it is gross at and do not like it at all. No matter how strongly anyone feels against it I don't think there is a chance of it stopping anytime soon because it is enormously popular among teenage boys mostly and other people as well.

I don't think an artist's personal life should change whether or not they should be played on the radio or on TV. Just like anyone, not everything an artist does is going to be good and not everyone is going to approve of the things they do. This shouldn't change the fact that they have talent and shouldn't force people to stop appreciating what they are doing.
I don't think this will ever happen because as long as some people feel they should not be played and complain about it the radio stations will stop playing them to try to keep people listening to that station. The Dixie Chicks is a good example of this happening.

Blog #21- F.U.T.K

The one thing that I think I will remember from SHUT UP AND SING is the feud that the Dixie Chicks had with Toby Keith. Although this was a minor part in the film, I found it very funny when Natalie came up with the idea to make a shirt with the letters "F.U.T.K" on it. This is meant to swear at Toby Keith but she made up different things for what it might mean. Then the film showed fans coming to their shows wearing these shirts coming up with their own meanings for it. I thought it was funny how the shirts caught on so quick and people were creating their own.

Something I found interesting was when we talked about violence in the media. I enjoyed watching Bowling for Columbine. This documentary has always interested me and i found it really interesting when we were looking more into the media related things. Like when Marilyn Manson was talking about what he thinks led that to happen and also when they talked to the people who created South Park, this show takes place in the town that Columbine high school is in and the creators grew up there as well. I also liked when we focused on other violent things in the media, like violent video games, and how people feel about them.

(I hope this isn't something too recent)

Blog #18

I think it is really funny that teenagers could out smart these celebrities. They have so much money and they don't even ensure their homes are secure enough that amateur kids are able to break in and take millions of dollars worth of stuff.

Blog #17 - super bowl fiasco

This super bowl half time show I felt was very random. Kid rock is a sketchy over rated, want a be bad ass and in my opinion tries to hard. Nelly is the good looking rapper who has one hit song with three words in it. Then there is Diddy, who does absolutely nothing to become famous. Justin Timberlake is the sexy heart throb who is just there for the young girls to look at. Janet Jackson is the performer in this show who may be the closest one out of all of them to have any talent at all. It's to bad she had to ruin her career by letting the Heart Throb rip off her shirt. All that was left for her to do is sit and wait for her brother's death and kick-start her career once again.

Yes, I think our media culture has a huge impact on people's sense of body image! Everyone has been effected by the media's idea of a "perfect" body and if they haven't, at some point in their life I think they will be. Everyone has insecurities and in my opinion the media plays an enormous part in that. All people, especially young people, are contently being told that they must have perfect bodies to be able to have friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, and to pretty much do anything with their lives. This is a lot of pressure and for some people it is to much pressure, this is where eating disorders come in.
For boys, they must be tall and thin. They must also have amazing abs and perfect, muscular bodies like all the guys in the magazines. To even come close to this they have to eat extremely healthy and spend way to much time in the gym.
For girls, they must be very skinny. They have to have small waists and have a larger chest with no extra fat on them in any area (except maybe the butt). This of course is not at all possible but to try to do this, girls have to go on crazy diets and in some cases spend a lot of money on cosmetic treatments.

I don't feel that music can construct reality. In my opinion music can change some people's moods, like put them in a good mood or sad mood but I don't think it can just change the way people think. I have never heard a song on the radio or on TV that I felt was over the line but I have heard songs that are not released onto the radio that in my opinion are taking things too far. With these songs i can see why they are not released and I think that if they ever were they would for sure be censored. There are also songs on the radio which are censored and I don't feel they need to be. When songs have one word "beeped" out I think it is pointless because everyone knows what they are actually saying anyway.

Blog #13

Yes, I think the media does construct reality. In my opinion the most important way the media constructs our reality is body image. So many people strive to have the "perfect" body like all the celebrities, but to have those bodies is not possible. This effects our behaviour because many people take things to the extreme to get these bodies. I also think the media changes people's attitudes because a lot try to act like their favourite celebrities, this can sometimes be good and sometimes be bad.

blog #12- Good-bye twitter

This video really bothers me. It Miley wants to get off twitter that is fine but she only did this video for attention, it is just another form of keeping people informed of what she is doing and that is the reason she got off twitter in the first place. I do think it is good that Miley got off twitter though. I think the whole thing is a little creepy, to follow everything that celebrities are doing and for her to actually delete it when she wasn't happy with having is good. I don't many other celebrities would do that because of liking the attention of it.

blog #11- media and violence

To a certain extent I think media constructs reality. For the most part it is something that can't be avoided but for some people i think they let it construct their reality. If all someone does is watch and read about celebrity's lives it would be harder for them to focus on their own lives. For those people, it may be easier for media products, such as violent video games or music videos, to result in violent acts. But for the most part I think the person committing the violent crime is the one responsible for it and it shouldn't be blamed on others.

blog # 10, spoof adds

The product we are using for the spoof add is the Apple iphone. The general premise of the add is that the iphone has an "app" for everything. In our add we intend to show that anything you want to do or have done is possible if you have an iphone. For our commercial we will need to film in a classroom setting, in an empty hallway, at the entrance of the school and at the entrance of a house, and lastly in the classroom again. The props we need are an iphone, one extra actor, and a breakfast sandwich. The slogan/motto/tag line that will appear in our add is "there's an app for that." This will be the finest spoof add ever produced by an idci group because our product is an extremely popular product right now and it is very current.

This video is related to media because I think it shows that some people will do anything to be popular on the internet. Many people will even embarrass themselves so people will watch their videos. This video is a perfect example of that happening because this girl deffinitly embarrassed herself in making this video.

Blog 8..Viral videos

In this top 100 viral videos I recognized about 20 videos. I think my favorite viral video from this video was either "Charlie bit my finger" or "David goes to the dentist". I have seen both of these videos many times and I still love watching them! They never get old and I think that is why they are some of the most watched videos on youtube.

Our Constructed World.

1. Since high school I have been eating fast food a lot more often because of the cafeteria and McDonald being so close. I think i probably eat fast food once or twice a week.
2. I try not to go shopping very often because when I do I end up spending a lot of money. I would say I visit shopping malls once every 2 months.
3. I think I watch around 10 hours of TV per week. I usually don't watch TV during the days or after school, just mostly at night.
4. I don't spend any of my time playing video games.
5. I usually spend about 7 hours on the computer per week give or take a few hours depending on the week.
6. I don't know too much about environmental issues but the issues that I make an effort to change are littering, power use and the amount of running water I use. I always try to pick up after myself and turn off lights when I leave rooms. I also try to make sure I never leave the water running for to long.
7. Environmental issues hardly ever influence my decision to buys things. The thought doesn't really cross my mind when I am buying things because usually the things I buy don't effect the environment very much.
8. I think my life is largely constructed. Especially during times when I have a lot of spare time to do things like watch TV or go on the computer.

The Truman Show

I have mixed feelings about the movie The Truman Show. I have seen this movie a few times before we watched it in class and I like it. When we watched it in class i enjoyed watching it as well because I never thought about it besides it just being a good movie. Once I thought about Truman and what it would be like to be the only one not knowing that you were the star of a reality show I started to think about it differently. I still like the movie but when I watch it I am focused more on the product placement and other things that are in the movie that we have talked about in class.
I don't think anything like this will ever really happen because I think to many people would find it cruel and not allow a baby to be adopted by a company. If anything like this were ever to be created I can't see myself watching it because I would feel very badly for the person who is not aware that their life is being recorded for the whole world to see. Also I think it would be pretty boring because they wouldn't be doing anything exciting all the time.

codes/conventions

Now that I know about the codes and conventions that appear in many movies I notice them in everything I watch. I am always seeing the same things over and over in movies and TV shows.
For example the other day i watched "The Italian Job" and instead of a car chase there was a boat chase and there was a "fruit boat" instead of a "fruit cart" that got crashed into. I think the directer of this movie put this in just to show people that there has to be a fruit cart of some form that gets crashed into during a chase scene.

mmva's.. Kanye vs. Taylor

When Kanye went up on stage after Taylor Swift won her award I thought it was a really bad move. Not only because it was a really mean thing to do to Taylor, it was also a bad move for his career. Taylor Swift has never done anything mean to anyone and Kanye went on stage and embarrassed her in front of the world.
Although Kanye is a jerk and always says controversial things publicly I really like his music.

Something i would put in the time capsule to represent today's media would be the popular movies that came out in 2009. I would say one of the most popular movies to come out in this year is Twilight. This movie was a huge hit with teenage girls with a dreamy main character! Another popular movie to come out this year was the 6th Harry Potter.

Something I really like in todays media world is the music. I really enjoy listening to music and I love searching and finding new songs! I like the music today because there are so many different kinds and different styles of music and I like listening to many of them!

Jack Johnson's "cookie jar"

The song "cookie jar" is about people blaming others for their own problems. I liked this song becasue I think it shows people how problems dealing with the media is partly everyone's fault. Everyone contributes to the media whether they mean to or not and that is something everyone needs realise and stop putting all the blame on other people.
