Blog #15

Yes, I think our media culture has a huge impact on people's sense of body image! Everyone has been effected by the media's idea of a "perfect" body and if they haven't, at some point in their life I think they will be. Everyone has insecurities and in my opinion the media plays an enormous part in that. All people, especially young people, are contently being told that they must have perfect bodies to be able to have friends, boyfriends/girlfriends, and to pretty much do anything with their lives. This is a lot of pressure and for some people it is to much pressure, this is where eating disorders come in.
For boys, they must be tall and thin. They must also have amazing abs and perfect, muscular bodies like all the guys in the magazines. To even come close to this they have to eat extremely healthy and spend way to much time in the gym.
For girls, they must be very skinny. They have to have small waists and have a larger chest with no extra fat on them in any area (except maybe the butt). This of course is not at all possible but to try to do this, girls have to go on crazy diets and in some cases spend a lot of money on cosmetic treatments.
